Want to lose excess weight? The secret is in …
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially if you want to lose weight. But if you start to feel hungry to so long after breakfast then you might get some additional unnecessary calories. Start thinking about how to choose better foods for the most important meal of the day.
The best choice is – oatmeal! This is confirmed by the latest research published in the journal “Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism.”
The study included 36 men and women who were divided into three different groups: the first was eating oatmeal for breakfast, the other was eating cereal (corn flakes), and the third has skipped the breakfast and drank only water.
Both the first and the second group consumed 350 calories total. Throughout the next three hours, all participants have, on several occasions, to record the state of satiety, and they gave blood samples in order to monitor blood sugar and insulin levels. After that, they all have to eat the same lunch.
As expected, the scientists confirmed that the group of people who ate oatmeal were the least hungry during the morning and afternoon, and they also ate 31% fewer calories at lunch. Besides that, oatmeal had the best results with people who were overweight, they consumed 50 percent fewer calories at lunch.
Subjects who ate breakfast cornflakes were hungry three hours after breakfast, the same hunger level was for the subjects who drank only water (and ate the same number of calories for lunch).
What is the reason behind all this? Subjects ate the same calorific value of cornflakes and oatmeal?!?
Because oatmeal retained longer in the stomach, while cornflakes (which has a high blood sugar level) causes a large increase in blood glucose, as well as its quick and sudden drop.
This research is just one of many that confirms how the oatmeal is useful if you want to take off excess weight. Because of those 31 and 50 percent, fewer calories intake will definitely show its results in the long run.
Oats and its derivatives such as porridge and cereals are very healthy, but very good food. If you think that you have to eat only oatmeal for breakfast, you are wrong. It can be mixed with almost, served as a side dish, add cooked vegetables, salad or a variety of sweet versions. It can also be the basis of healthy desserts, like cookies, writes, “Huffington Post”.
